Janel Meilani Parrish (born October 30, 1988 in Oahu, Hawaii) is an actress, singer, Broadway perfomer, songwriter and pianist. She is of Caucasian and Chinese ancestry.
Parrish got her first acting job with a minor role in 1999's four-part miniseries, "Too Rich: The Secret Life of Doris Duke." Shortly thereafter, she appeared in two episodes of the popular TV series "Baywatch" as a young girl named Hina. In 2000, she was featured in Disney's made-for-TV live-action incarnation of the "Pinnochio" story, entitled "Geppetto." She then went on to appear as the character Vanessa in the short-lived TV sitcom "The O'Keefes," along with appearances on "The Bernie Mac Show," "Zoey 101," and "The O.C."
Parrish next appears as Jade in the film, "Bratz: The Movie." It will be her first role in a theatrical motion picture, as well as her first starring role.
In addition to her acting skills, Parrish is also very passionate about music. At age six, she began playing the piano. Then, at age 14, she appeared on the 2003 remake of "Star Search," performing the song "On My Own." Parrish later went on to make several appearances in the Broadway production of "Les Misérables" as Cosette.
In 2007, Parrish was signed to Geffen Records to produce her first album. Her first single, "Rainy Day," along with its music video, was released on July 7. The song will also be featured on the "Bratz: The Movie" motion picture soundtrack.
