HOLLYWOOOD, Calif. — Kelly Kapoor has landed a new job.
Mindy Kaling, who portrays the flirtatious customer service rep on "The Office," has inked a two-year deal with NBC to star in own series, Variety reports.
Under the terms of the agreement, Kaling will continue with her "Office" duties as she develops her new comedy series. The 29-year-old serves as a co-executive producer and has written several of the Emmy Award-winning show's episodes.
"This is my first step in a Transformers-style way to take over the whole world," joked Kaling. "I've only ever worked for NBC, and I've felt an enormous amount of support from the executives there."
Kaling is viewed in a very similar light as fellow network star Tina Fey, a talented writer who can also front a series.
"Her comic sensibility is perfect for what we stand for in NBC comedy," said NBC primetime entertainment president Angela Bromstad.
As for what direction her new starring vehicle may take, Kaling told the trade publication that she might explore another office setting for laughs or venture along the lines of HBO's "Flight of the Conchords."
"I've always wanted to do another show about women," said Kaling.
