HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — The father of R&B star Rihanna is speaking out about Chris Brown's alleged attack on his daughter last weekend, admitting he "didn't believe it."
"You think you know somebody, but you really don't," the singer's father, Ronald Fenty, told People on Saturday.
Rihanna, 20, and Brown, 19, had attended Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party last Saturday night before reportedly getting into an argument on the car ride home. They were sitting in Brown's rented Lamborghini in the city's Hancock Park neighborhood shortly after midnight when the alleged assault reportedly took place.
Brown was arrested Sunday evening on suspicion of making criminal threats against Rihanna, whose real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty. He is currently free on $50,000 bail.
"There is some bruising," Fenty said of Rihanna's current condition. "She will be alright."
"At some point, she will speak out," added Fenty, who saw his daughter in Barbados on Thursday. "I hope she will stand up for women all over the world."
Fenty told the mag that he last saw the couple together over the summer and their relationship appeared strong.
"They seemed pretty happy," he said. "I don't know what went wrong."
While whatever led to last weekend's falling out remain a mystery, Fenty did have a little fatherly advice to share.
"If it were me, I'd move on," he said.
