HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn are splitsville once again.
The 43-year-old actress filed for divorce on Aug. 12 in Marin County, Calif., adding yet another chapter in the couple's on-again, off-again marriage.
Wright Penn cited "irreconcilable differences" in her divorce filing, which does not seek spousal support.
The ex-couple has also agreed to share custody of their 16-year-old son, Hopper Jack.
The Penns, who married in 1996 after seven years of dating, also have an 18-year-old daughter named Dylan Frances.
The longtime couple has attempted to save their marriage on numerous occasions in recent years, having twice filed for divorce only to later stop proceedings. However, the "She's So Lovely" star told More magazine that this time it is officially over.
"I hit that crossroad a while ago," she said. "I know what I don't want."
With her daughter about to head away for college and her son not too far behind, the actress said it's a very trying time for her.
"At least twice a week, I pull over and sob," she said. "My baby is leaving. It's an emotionally full time, but it's not sad. I can't wait for Dylan to go [out and] live. That's what makes me cry."
What impact the divorce filing has on the 49-year-old "Milk" star's career remains to be seen. In June, the Oscar winner said he was taking a leave of absence in order to focus on his family. Among the projects Penn planned to leave was his role in the highly-anticipated Farrelly brothers film "The Three Stooges."
