MIAMI — Cynthia Rodriguez, the wife of baseball slugger Alex Rodriguez, filed for divorce Monday after five years of marriage, the Associated Press reports.
The divorce filing comes less than three months after the birth of the couple's second daughter. It also comes amid reports linking the New York Yankees slugger to Madonna, whose marriage to Guy Ritchie has been rumored to be in trouble as well.
Us Weekly reported last week that Rodriguez has made several visits to Madonna's Central Park West apartment, including one encounter shortly after Cynthia Rodriguez, 35, gave birth earlier this year. The 32-year-old baseball star would reportedly leave "as late as midnight," according to the magazine's source.
When contacted by Access Hollywood, Madonna's rep, Liz Rosenberg, denied Us Weekly's claims.
"Madonna and Alex have the same manager, Guy Oseary," Rosenberg said. "They have met. They know each other and Madonna took her kids to a Yankees game last week. There's really not anything to comment on beyond that."
However, Houston attorney Earle Lilly told local television station KTRK that he was hired by Cynthia Rodriguez last week because the infielder's "relationship with Madonna was the final straw for Mrs. Rodriguez."
According to the Miami Herald, Cynthia Rodriguez is also represented by Miami-based attorneys Maurice Kutner and Anthony Sabatino, as well as John Van Ness of Houston.
"She feels that she has exhausted every opportunity to salvage the marriage, and that Alex has emotionally abandoned her and the children and has left her with no choice but to divorce him," Kutner told the Herald.
Alex and Cynthia were married in Nov. 2002. They have two children, Natasha Alexander, 3 and Ella Alexander, who was born April 21.
Following the Madonna rumor, another tabloid report began linking Cynthia Rodriguez to rocker Lenny Kravitz, whom she spent time with in Paris after the story broke last week. The 44-year-old Kravitz, whose manager is Oseary as well, issued a statement Thursday denying any involvement in the couple's split.
"There is absolutely no affair between Cynthia Rodriguez and myself," said Kravitz, whose currently in the midst of his "Love Revolution Tour" in Europe. "This is unequivocally 100 percent not true.
"Cynthia is a friend and is here with the godfather of her baby, who is also Alex's trainer, his wife and their baby girl," he added.
"She came here to escape from everything happening in New York City. I opened my home to her as a friend and I find it extremely hurtful that I am now being referred to as an adulterer."
