EUGENE, Ore. — Conan O'Brien kicked off his 30-date comedy tour on Monday, hours after it was revealed that he'll return to late-night television on TBS.
The 46-year-old comedian's tour, dubbed the Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour, debuted at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene, Ore., where fans were treated to a variety show that by all accounts was well received. The tour's title is in reference to O'Brien's famous NBC exit that prohibits him from appearing on television until Sept. 1.
O'Brien's hour-long, yet-to-be-titled TBS show is expected to debut in November. It will air Mondays through Thursdays at 11 p.m., shifting Lopez Tonight to a midnight time slot. The comic began talks in earnest with TBS just last week, after George Lopez personally called him to ask that he consider joining the network's late-night line-up.
"In three months I've gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I'm headed to basic cable. My plan is working perfectly," the former Tonight Show host joked in announcing his new TBS gig.
O'Brien's comedy tour will wrap June 14 in Atlanta, following a stop at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tenn.
