HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Even superheroes are at risk when it comes to the swine flu.
Twentieth Century Fox has announced that it is postponing Wednesday's premiere of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" in Mexico City over health concerns.
Many of Mexico's top movie-theater chains have been shut down as a result of the swine flu outbreak in an effort to limit spreading of the disease. "Wolverine" star Hugh Jackman was the lone cast member scheduled to attend the premiere, but there was fear over adding to an already worrisome situation.
"We were not only concerned about Hugh's welfare – and we would never send anyone into harm's way – but we also have an enormous office filled with people we care about," a studio rep told People. "There was no point in proceeding under the current conditions."
The studio said it's possible that the Mexico City premiere will be rescheduled.
"Hugh is obviously beloved [there] so we'll see what happens," the rep told the mag. "We'll monitor the situation."
The highly-anticipated "Wolverine" film is still scheduled to open virtually everywhere else in the world this weekend.
