LOS ANGELES — Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch may be looking for a new head honcho.
Steve Carell dropped a bombshell during a recent BBC Radio interview that he could be leaving The Office when his contract expires at the end of the show's seventh season next year. When asked if he'd sign on for more hilarious adventures as Michael Scott, Carell replied: "I don't think so. I think that'll probably be my last year."
The 47-year-old actor has received four Emmy nominations for the NBC comedy role, originated by Ricky Gervais on the BBC version of The Office.
Carell's movie career has soared since he landed at Dunder Mifflin in 2005, including his breakout role in the raunch comedy The 40-Year-Old Virgin. He is currently starring alongside Tina Fey in the box office hit Date Night and has several film roles upcoming, including Dinner for Schmucks and the animated feature Despicable Me.
NBC has yet to comment on Carell's BBC Radio interview.
