NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Country music newcomers Steel Magnolia will release their self-titled debut album on Sept. 21, label Big Machine Records announced Tuesday.
The album, produced by Dann Huff, includes Steel Magnolia's smash hit, "Keep On Lovin' You," plus their new single, the sweeping power-ballad, "Just By Being You (Halo and Wings)."
2010 has been a whirlwind year for Meghan Linsey and Joshua Scott Jones, the duo that comprise Steel Magnolia. The rising stars have broken a decades-long Billboard record and earned a million downloads of their Top 5 breakout hit, "Keep On Lovin' You." Despite Steel Magnolia's success, getting to this point hasn't been an easy road.
"There's a Queen song called, 'We are the Champions,' " says Jones. "There's a line in the song that says, 'It's been no bed of roses, no pleasure cruise, I consider it a challenge before the whole human race, and I ain't gonna lose.' It's true - it hasn't been a bed of roses for me. I grew up dirt poor in Illinois. I don't think you always have to know how you're going to do something, you just have to have the determination to do it."
"I knew at a very young age, exactly what I wanted to do," echoes Linsey. "I started coming to Nashville when I was 14 and moved when I turned 18. I found my 'niche' working in karaoke bars in downtown Nashville. I didn't have money or connections or much of anything, I had no idea how all of this was going to work out, I just always believed that it would."
Steel Magnolia wrote seven of the 12 tracks on their album debut, including the haunting ballad, "Glass Houses," penned solely by Jones.
