HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Shania Twain's husband Robert "Mutt" Lange reportedly had an affair, causing the couple to split after 14 years of marriage, a source tells People magazine.
According to the source, Lange became involved with Marie Ann Thiébaud, who worked for the couple as a secretary and manager of their chateau in Switzerland.
"It's absolutely not the reason [for the separation]," Lange told People when asked about the allegations.
Marie Ann Thiébaud reportedly left her own relationship to be together with Lange. The source said the couple is still together at this time, a claim that Lange also denied.
"I'm not, no," the record producer told People when asked if he's dating Marie Ann Thiébaud. "It's not true."
Twain and Lange announced their separation last week. The 42-year-old country singer and her ex were married in 1993. They have one child together, 6-year-old son, Eja D'Angelo.
In 2000, the couple was rumored to be on the verge of a break-up, but they remained together. Two years later, Twain admitted that she and her husband were "very different" in a interview with People.
"Our love has always been based on friendship and compatibility," she said.
The Canadian-native's last original studio release was "Up!" in 2002, an album in which the 59-year-old Lange was a major contributor. The release was a follow up to Twain's "Come on Over," which became the highest-selling female solo artist album in history.
The singer's last new material came in the form of three new tracks on her 2004 "Greatest Hits" album.
She has previously stated that she intends to release a new album sometime this year.
