NEW YORK — Michael Douglas is not near death, his longtime friend and publicist assured Thursday.
"Michael is totally focused on his recovery," rep Allen Burry told People, silencing reports that the Oscar winner's health has taken a turn for the worse after being diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer in August.
Douglas, 66, recently completed eight weeks of radiation and chemotherapy treatment.
"It's been very difficult," admitted Burry, who said doctors "are very pleased with how he responded to treatment. They think he's doing really well. He's doing as well as can be expected."
Speculation about Douglas' condition kicked up earlier this week after Oliver Stone said the Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps star's health was "precarious." Another report said Douglas had changed his will due to his declining health, which Burry denied.
"Michael hasn't changed his will recently, and he isn't contemplating changing it," said the rep.
