HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Mariah Carey has finally confirmed the world's worst kept secret: the 41-year-old singer is pregnant and expecting her first baby with husband Nick Cannon.
"Yes, we are pregnant. This is true," Carey said on NBC's Today Show Thursday morning as part of a sneak peek at a three-part Access Hollywood interview. "It's been a long journey. It's been tough because I've been trying to hold on to a shred of privacy."
Carey would not reveal her due date, but said the couple's baby would arrive in the spring. The pop star also disclosed that she suffered a miscarriage soon after the two married in 2008.
"It kind of shook us both and took us into a place that was really dark and difficult," she said. "When that happened... I wasn't able to even talk to anybody about it. That was not easy."
"It strengthened our relationship so much ... she handled it so well," added the 31-year-old Cannon of the loss.
Both stars have been dodging pregnancy rumors for months.
"If & when my wife is ready to make ANY announcements about private matters she will do it personally," Cannon wrote back in June on his Twitter page. "Thanks for being respectful. God Bless."
