HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Lindsay Lohan is speaking out about her recent split with girlfriend Samantha Ronson, saying it came as a complete surprise to her.
"That whole night was really tough," the 22-year-old actress said of the breakup while appearing on Thursday's "Ellen DeGeneres Show." "It came out of nowhere."
And the worse part as far as Lohan was concerned?
"When you don't know you're breaking up," she said. "Really weird."
When pressed further about what caused the breakup, Lohan was quick to deny infidelity played a role in the split.
"I don't believe in cheating on someone," she said. "I watched my father do that to my mother my entire life, so I really don't."
The "Mean Girls" star also denied tabloid reports that the 31-year-old Ronson sought a restraining order against her.
"What am I going to do?" she wondered. "I've never done anything for people to assume that I'm dangerous."
DeGeneres said that after her own public breakup (with Anne Heche in 2000), she longed to run away and escape. But Lohan said that's not in the cards for her.
"I feel like I want to get my career back in shape," she explained. "When people are together so much it gets really difficult, and you forget who you are because you're more concerned about being with the other person. I think it's been really good for me. I thought it would be so much harder, and it hasn't been. My sister's been here with me."
"I've had great people surrounding me, and I've just been working every single day," she added.
Lohan said dating is the furthest thing from her mind right now, but she remains hopeful that they'll be a reunion down the road.
"I'm not looking to be with anyone right now," said Lohan. "I don't need to deal with that. It gets too distracting from everything that I need to focus on. Leaving town, you miss someone too much and you don't want to go sometimes."
"No, I really care about Samantha and we'll see what happens," she added. "Maybe when we're both fully in the right place... I love her."
