HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Jessica Simpson has debuted her new country single, "Come On Over," on the Jacksonville, Fla. radio station WQIK.
In the 27-year-old star's latest track, she sings, "I need you now/ I need you bad/I need you baby looking just like that/Don't pack a bag/Don't make me wait/ I want to kiss that smile that's on your face/I need you wrapped up in these arms/ I want you just the way you are/Come On Over."
Earlier this year, the Texas-bred singer, who established herself in the entertainment world with pop music, said she was getting in touch with her country roots to reignite her career.
The star told Billboard magazine, "I am a country girl. I grew up in Texas, and country music was what I listened to. I always wanted to wait until the time was right."
"I think there is a strength in female country artists," Simpson added, citing Martina McBride, Shania Twain, Faith Hill and Reba McEntire as some of her inspirations.
The starlet, who is rebuilding her career after suffering from multiple failures at the box office, is also going to get more involved in her music.
She said, "Writing is a release for me. It's a way for me to tell my story. That's not to say I wouldn't record a song that I didn't write. It's just that it has been a while since I have opened the book."
Simpson's last album, "A Public Affair," spent just nine weeks on the Billboard 200 in 2006. Her most recent movie, "Blonde Ambition," was released in a handful of theatres in her native Texas before quickly heading for DVD distribution.
Simpson, who became a major household name thanks to the reality TV show "Newlyweds, will release her country album via Columbia Records later this year.
