HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Just weeks after his breakup from Jessica Simpson, rumors are flying that Tony Romo has a new girlfriend.
The quarterback is being linked to Natalie Smith, the 22-year-old daughter of the associate athletic director at Romo's alma mater, Eastern Illinois University. Sources tell Us Weekly that the pair have been sending "flirty texts" to each other for months, with the 29-year-old Romo even taking Smith to a Simpson concert back in February.
"We hung out for, like 10 to 15 minutes, backstage," Smith said of meeting Simpson in the magazine's latest issue. "She was cool and nice."
While many have speculated that Romo's relationship with Smith turned romantic after he broke up with Simpson on July 9, John Smith tells People that his daughter is not dating the football star.
"His breakup brought all these rumors and stories and it is not true," said Smith, who added that Romo has "always been friends" with his family.
Smith admitted that his daughter did meet Romo for lunch last week in Dallas, but said she feels bad about causing a commotion when there's nothing happening between the two.
"Natalie feels so bad," he said. "Just being friends with Tony has disrupted everyone [from] talking about Tony and football and are instead talking about Tony and all of this.
"What is funny about all of this is that if Tony hadn't broken up with Jessica, nothing would ever have been written about him having lunch with Natalie."
