HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are planning to get married, The Associated Press reports.
DeGeneres announced the longtime couple's plans during a taping of her talk show Thursday. The program will air today.
The news comes on the heels of Thursday's state high court ruling which struck down California's laws against gay marriage.
California's Supreme Court ruled that people have a fundamental "right to marry" the partner of their choosing, thus making the previous ban on gay marriage unconstitutional.
DeGeneres, 50, and de Rossi, 35, have been dating since December 2004. Prior to their romance beginning, DeGeneres had a high-profile relationship with actress Anne Heche.
De Rossi was reportedly in the studio when DeGeneres made the announcement, which drew a large round of applause from her studio audience.
While the California Supreme Court ruling is expected to be challenged, same-sex couples could tie the knot in as little as a month as things stand now.
"I never would have thought my life would have turned out this way," DeGeneres previously told Allure magazine, admitting she and de Rossi hoped to be "together the rest of our lives."
"To have money. Or to have a gorgeous girlfriend. I just feel so lucky with everything in my life right now," she added.
