HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — After a year of health scares, Bret Michaels will kick off 2011 by undergoing heart surgery. But forget about the Poison frontman taking a bad attitude into the operating room.
"I'm going in there thinking very positively that it's going to be great and I'm going to feel a whole lot better," the 47-year-old rocker tells E! Online.
The singer's health problems began when he underwent an emergency appendectomy before suffering a near-fatal brain hemorrhage in April. That was followed by a warning stroke and the discovery of a hole in his heart, which doctors will look to repair during the surgery scheduled for January. Michaels admits he'll be a little nervous come operating time.
"I'd be lying to say that somewhere in my subconscious there's not a little bit of gulling," he says. "When they're going through your body to operate on your heart, it's going to hit you somewhere that they're toying with the ticker. There's definitely a little fear in there somewhere."
These days, Michaels is looking as fit as ever, proven by his naked cover for Billboard magazine's "Maximum Exposure" issue. Prior the shoot, Michaels says he "didn't eat for a day and did about 2,000 sit-ups." He also made a simple plea.
"I said, 'Listen, I have two requests—good lighting and a warm room. That's all I'm asking for,' " he explains. "If I'm walking out with it all f--king hanging out there for the world to see then, well, I need good lighting and a warm room."
