HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Blake Lively has landed her biggest movie role to date.
The 22-year-old actress will star as Carol Ferris in the big-budget sci-fi flick Green Lantern, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Lively joins the previously cast Ryan Reynolds in Green Lantern, a live-action film based on the DC Comics hero. As the story goes, Ferris is running her father's aerospace company when she hires test pilot Hal Jordan (Reynolds), the man she falls for who turns into the superhero Green Lantern. In the comics, Ferris goes on to become the supervillainess Star Sapphire.
The initial plan was to seek an older actress, with Keri Russell and Jennifer Garner reportedly in the running for the role. But the Gossip Girl star wowed in part thanks to her performance in The Town, the trade publication said.
Green Lantern, which hopes to begin shooting in Louisiana this March, is scheduled to hit theaters in June 2011.
