HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka are opening up about becoming parents for the first time.
The pair, who welcomed fraternal twins Harper Grace and Gideon Scott via a surrogate in October, are still trying to come to grips with fatherhood.
"Everyone says that it's such a blur after it happens," Harris, 37, tells People magazine. "I find myself constantly just trying to wrap my mind around it."
"Harper has been fussy but Gideon is the easiest baby in the world," adds Burtka, 35. "They're just now starting to recognize us and smile."
The two were also "thrilled" to discover they would welcome twins.
"We inserted two eggs, one with my sperm, one with David's sperm and they both took," the How I Met Your Mother star says.
Harris also joked that having children comes in handy at times.
"I just love the way they smell. And we can use them as an excuse to get out of almost anything," he explains. "That's cleared the calendar in a good way."
