HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian are engaged - for real!
"Eddie [Cibrian] and I got engaged over the holidays. That's the news. It's for real this time and the first time EVER!" the country star said Monday on Twitter, a month she slammed an engagement report by E! News.
She added, "Thank you for all your well wishes!! We are extremely excited and look forward to a beautiful future. It's been an incredible last few days, I was shocked!!! We are blessed, our families are so happy and our lives are filled with love."
Rimes also flashed her engagement ring for the first time Monday when she strolled along a Malibu beach with Cibrian.
"The couple wanted an antique feel, but a new ring," a source told People magazine of the sparkler, which features a 5-carat oval diamond set in rose gold fleur-de-lis connected to the band.
Rimes, 28, and Cibrian, 37, were accused of having an affair in March 2009 after meeting on the set of the Lifetime movie Northern Lights. Rimes was married to dancer Dean Sheremet at the time, while Cibrian was raising two children with his ex-wife, model Brandi Glanville.
"My relationship with Dean was great, but ultimately it wasn't a fulfilling marriage for either of us," she told Shape magazine in September. "We got married so young: I was 19 and he was 21, so as we got older, we grew apart."
Still, Rimes admitted she could have handled the situation better.
"I understand why people are disappointed in me, especially since I grew up as America's sweetheart," she explained. "I think any relationship is hard to get out of, and I don't think the way I did it was right."
She added, "I truly believe there are lessons in it for me to learn. Cultivating strength from rough situations is the most important thing. After going through this, I know I can face anything."
