LOS ANGELES – Cheryl Cole was warned she could be attacked at gunpoint on her recent trip to Afghanistan.
The Girls Aloud star - who flew to Camp Bastion in the country's Helmand Province last month on a morale boosting visit for troops -underwent military training to prepare her for the desert and was determined to make the trip despite the dangers.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Before I went out I was given war training which was pretty full-on and quite scary.
"They warn you about coping with all kinds of scary scenarios - things like having a gun put to your head. I was warned before I went out there that it could be dangerous. But nothing could stop me from going. And I'm just so glad I did."
While in the country Cheryl swapped numbers with a British soldier on a tour of duty
and the pair are hoping to arrange a date soon.
She said: "Not only are the soldiers incredibly brave, a few of them were also incredibly cute.
"I actually came back with a phone number from one lad . although I think his talking to me was a dare. He started chatting to me after I'd been shot at during a training exercise.
"Obviously it wasn't real ammunition but it was still terrifying. Anyway I think I am going to call him this week and we'll see what happens. I'm sure he's not expecting me to ring but that's why it'll be funny and that's why I'm going to do it."
