LOS ANGELES – Charlie Sheen is now "absolutely" sober.
The former 'Two and a Half Men' star - who has been discovered in a hotel room with a prostitute, wielded a machete of the top of a building and had two live-in girlfriends in the last year - is now a in a "mellower" state, but does not know exactly how long he has been free of drink and drugs.
Asked if he was sober by 'The Today Show's Matt Lauer, Charlie said: "Absolutely. I don't really keep track of the time. It's been a while. Things are a lot calmer. It's a lot mellower."
However, he admits he is unsure of how is state of mind came about, and found the time "pretty exciting" as he didn't know what he was going to do next.
He said: "I really don't know what happened. It was one of those things where the planets were aligned, perfectly or imperfectly. I said some stuff and then it caught such traction globally and instantly that I couldn't really put out the fire.
"From one moment to the next, I didn't know what was going to happen. It was pretty exciting."
At one point Charlie became famous for drinking a mysterious concoction known as Tiger Blood, and that period is one he admits is "silly".
He added: "Looking back on it, I don't think I would trade it, but there are portions of it I would have amended a little bit. I don't know, the Tiger Blood thing, it was so silly and people took it so seriously and I figured, alright, I'll continue to give the people what they want, you know?"
