PHOENIX — Bret Michaels underwent heart surgery on Monday in Arizona – a procedure that has been planned for months.
Doctors closed a hole in the rock star's heart at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix. The surgery was deemed "successful" and the hospital said Michaels is currently recuperating under observation in ICU.
Michaels was treated at the hospital in April for a life-threatening brain hemorrhage. During that treatment, it was determined that he suffered from a patent foramen ovale (PFO), a hole in the heart.
While he admitted to being nervous about his heart surgery, Michaels told E! News in October that he was maintaining a positive attitude.
"I'm going in there thinking very positively that it's going to be great and I'm going to feel a whole lot better," he said.
