DETROIT — Aretha Franklin has been released from a Detroit hospital where she underwent surgery earlier this month for an undisclosed ailment.
"I've been at home for almost three days now," the 68-year-old singer said Wednesday in a statement. "My family and friends who brought me home are taking great care of me. I also have a private nurse who visits on a daily basis."
She added, "I'm hoping to be strong enough to go out and see the upcoming Sam Cooke play at the Music Hall in downtown Detroit before Jan. 2, as well as a performance of Dreamgirls at the FOX before it closes.
Franklin has never disclosed her health problem, but there have been reports she's suffering from pancreatic cancer.
In November, the Queen of Soul announced she was under doctors orders to cancel all concert dates and personal appearances through May.
Franklin is one of the most popular singers in American history, having won 20 Grammy Awards over the course of her distinguished career. In 1987, she became the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
